COUNTRY ROUND:
SHOWCASE

Asset 14_3x.png

The ASEAN-China-India Youth Leadership Summit is a dynamic platform that unites young Asian leaders from across the region for a vibrant and collaborative future.

Sustainability is a crucial topic of our time, where we face numerous environmental and social challenges, including climate change, food security, and clean energy. Despite this, the interconnectedness of our world presents an opportunity for the younger generation to reshape it with their talent and innovation. That’s why for 2024, the selected theme will be “Reimagine – Eco-Cities”.
To advance sustainable development, our programme will focus specifically on addressing two United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs):

Goal 7:
AFFORDABLE AND CLEAN ENERGY

To ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all.

Why?

Access to affordable, reliable and sustainable energy is crucial to achieving many of the Sustainable Development Goals. Energy access, however, varies widely across countries and the current rate of progress falls short of what will be required to achieve the Goal. Redoubled efforts will be needed, particularly for countries with large energy access deficits and high energy consumption.

Goal 11:
Sustainable Cities and Communities

To make cities inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.

Why?

This goal recognises the importance of cities as centres of economic growth and innovation, but also acknowledges that they can contribute to environmental degradation, social inequality, and other challenges. Achieving this goal requires a wide range of actions, including improving access to affordable housing, enhancing public transportation, reducing pollution, and promoting green spaces.

CHAMPION

Team GOLDEN FLAMES

Problem statement:

How might we implement and encourage effective waste management strategies, including prevention, reduction, recycling and reuse?

Proposal details:

The proposed solution involves utilizing wasted coconut water to produce biodegradable coconut leather through microbial fermentation. This innovative process addresses environmental concerns associated with synthetic leather, offers a sustainable alternative, and aligns with several UN Sustainable Development Goals. The solution targets eco-conscious consumers and incorporates blockchain for transparency and traceability. The project is financially viable, with a payback period of 5.2 years, contributing significantly to CO2 reduction.

1st Runner-up

Team ReZinc

Problem statement:

97% of all batteries go unprocessed. This wasteful use is not only depleting our coal reserves but the crisis is happening now as discarded batteries pile up in landfills, leaching toxic chemicals into our land and soil where they stay for decades, poisoning hundreds of thousands of our children yearly by exposure

Proposal details:

Therefore, our team presents a solution that gives a second life to carbon-based battery waste, transforming it into useful products such as high-quality carbon paint and carbon pigment through various processing and extraction steps. Based on the recycling process, each liter of ReZinc paint produced will reuse 628 grams of carbon powder. According to our estimated annual sales, by 2028, we will help reduce up to 700 tons of CO2 emissions into the environment.

2nd Runner-up

Team OAKIA

Problem statement:

There is a pressing concern about fast fashion, consumerism, and its impacts on textile waste.

Proposal details:

An end-to-end technology as a service to integrate textile to textile recycling for fashion brands. Advanced textile sorting and zero-carbon process achieved through microbial enzymes. Altogether, helps the Vietnamese fashion industry achieve a circular economy with sustainable, recycled textile.
